Leo Villareal
Bio

Leo Villareal (American, b. 1967) creates abstract light works using custom-written computer code to control arrays of LEDs, producing sequences that shift and evolve without a predetermined outcome. His practice grew out of a functional idea at Burning Man in 1997, where he rigged a strobe-light array above his tent to find it after dark, a device that became a prototype for his later work connecting software and light.
