Julian Hespenheide is a German designer and creative technologist from Berlin.He works across interaction design and generative systems, creating installations that bring the digital into dialogue with the analog world. His practice merges design, art, science and technology into concepts intended to sharpen understanding of the future.,
Hespenheide holds a master's degree in Digital Media from the University of the Arts Bremen (HFK), Germany.,His animations and installations have been exhibited internationally, including at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media in Japan, Bright Moments gallery in Berlin, and Design Society in Shenzhen.He also participated in “IDAF'26”, the Istanbul Digital Art Festival, in 2026.He has worked as a senior creative technologist at the studios FIELD.IO and TheGreenEyl, and teaches creative coding and computational design at ZHDK Zürich, UDK Berlin and HfK Bremen. In 2024 he co-founded an artist-run gallery in Berlin-Mitte with Anna Lucia, focused on digital and algorithmic art.
In 2021 he made Daydream, a dynamic entrance installation for Jianping He's solo exhibition at Design Society in Shenzhen, built with Studio TheGreenEyl using a quad-tree algorithm to process 25 years of He's design archive.In 2023 he released FSM, an algorithmic edition of 100 built around a finite-state machine and the cybernetic principle of self-organization known as autopoiesis, minted on fx(hash) and shown across eight screens in Berlin.For Responsive Dreams' 2025 edition he made Ratio, a generative work that divides its canvas into sections running autonomous calculations, drawing on the mid-20th-century Ratio Club of early cyberneticists.
