José Gasparian is a Brazilian visual artist, designer and photographer whose generative, animated and interactive work pursues a constant search for beauty and minimalism through bold color palettes, organic movement and geometric shapes. He is based in San Francisco after growing up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and trained in design at PUC-Rio.
His process follows his training in design, starting from a theme that he treats like a design problem and works through an ideation phase toward a solution, sometimes pushing an idea to an extreme. His subjects come from nature, personal observation and inner reflection, and he draws on the light and space, minimalism and color field movements alongside contemporary graphic and motion design. He has said his intention is to invite viewers into a relaxing state, whether through the looping, hypnotic movement of Cíclicos or the bold colors of Aura. He has been interviewed by several digital art publications and received a mention in the book The New Creator Economy.
In Cíclicos (2021–2023), each piece repeats the same looping movement, a series he created to mimic a breathing exercise for managing anxiety.His 2022 generative series Timeframes, released on fxhash, layers color across hours, minutes and seconds to visualize what he has called “a photo of time”.That same year his series Flow paired solid and organic shapes to reflect on architecture's debt to nature.In 2023 he collaborated with MCHX on the generative series CASCADE, made with JavaScript, in which each artist created one of two color palettes inspired by the movement of water.That year he also released the series Aura on Foundation, where each piece captures a distinct aura and invites viewers to introspect and connect with their feelings.He also released We Are on Exchange.art in 2023, a series that moves from simple to increasingly complex compositions to reflect stages of personal growth and change.
