Originally from Australia and based in Southern California,Joe Pease is a self-taught video artistwho films and edits everyday scenes into surreal, loop-based compositions. His work grew out of an earlier background in skateboard filmmaking and music videos, and uses repetition and layered editing to draw viewers into an observer's, almost voyeuristic, point of view.
Early in his career, Pease was selected for Saatchi & Saatchi's New Directors Showcase in 2013 and collaborated with brands including Nike, Patagonia, and Adidas. He minted his first work on Ethereum in May 2021, and over the following three years released twenty-two one-of-one video artworks.Pieces including Everything is Temporary |. (2023), Out of Time (2024), and Broken Sidewalk were shown in “Peripheral”, a solo retrospective showcase Fakewhale curated for WUF Basel 2024 that focused on the overlooked margins of ordinary environments.,
In November 2024, Glitch Gallery presented everything vs nothing at Art Blocks' Marfa Weekend, thirty looping video artworks connected to a single 1/1 original that will never be minted.Reviewing the event, Artforum described the video art Pease showed there as meticulously constructed, with the opening including a live performance by an actor costumed as the stressed-out office worker who recurs throughout his videos.
At Zero 10, the digital art section of Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2025, Pease showed zero dollar man (2025) at the stand of gallery Nguyen Wahed, a work that depends on triggers from a smart contract.Le Random's review of the fair grouped Pease's screen-based work with pieces by IX Shells, Kim Asendorf, and Dmitri Cherniak, among others.Pease was also included among the 137 artists featured in Collecting Art Onchain, a book project documenting a decade of on-chain art history from 2014 to 2025.,
