Jake Inez (Mexican-Filipino, b. 1993) is a photographer from San Pedro, California, working in analog film and motion picture. His photographs give ordinary moments, like a vacant laundromat or lovers running alongside a train, a cinematic, dreamlike quality built from color, light and motion. He specializes in branded, travel and lifestyle photography, working with clients including Airbnb, Google and Mr. Porter.
Inez grew up skateboarding in Southern California and first connected with film photography through old pictures of his grandparents, before a friend returning from Japan lent him a point-and-shoot camera. He is drawn to subjects with character, from street scenes and vintage cars to buildings and the people passing through them, and shoots primarily on Lomography Color Negative 800 film. He has said his approach to the film medium is “a matter of trusting what you can't see”, following instinct rather than the certainty of a digital preview.
