Bio

Hans Heiner Buhr (German, b. 1965) is an expressionist painter whose work is rooted in the Caucasus, depicting horses, riders, caravans, mountain cultures and the borderlands between Europe and Asia. Born in East Berlin, he studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and has been based in Tbilisi, Georgia, since 1996.

Buhr has exhibited in Tbilisi galleries since 1998, including the solo shows “Caucasian Baroque” at Old Gallery in 2001, “The Turkish Rider” at Gamrekeli Gallery in 2013, and “Wild Times”, also at Gamrekeli Gallery, in 2023. In 2023 his painting Pack Horses New York City entered the collection of the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts in Tbilisi. Since 2019 Buhr has also worked in crypto art, minting on the platforms SuperRare and objkt.com and via Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions. His 2019 piece Crypto Riders is included in the Thoreau Centre for the Blockchain Arts collection. He lives and works between Tbilisi and Saguramo, Georgia.
