GЯIFF, also known as Matt Griffin, is an Irish illustrator and author whose work moves between illustration, literature, animation and digital media, rooted in myth, science fiction and speculative design. He has created cover art and illustration for publishers including Penguin Random House, HarperCollins and The Folio Society, and for studios including Disney, Lucasfilm and Warner Bros.
Between 2019 and 2023 he illustrated the deluxe editions of Frank Herbert's Dune novels for Penguin Random House's Ace/Roc Books imprint, working with art director Adam Auerbach.In 2020 he illustrated The Folio Society's edition of Arthur C. Clarke's Rendezvous with Rama, working with art director Sheri Gee.His limited-edition movie posters have been released through Bottleneck Gallery in the United States and Vice Press in the United Kingdom.
He began writing after Emma Byrne, the art director on a graphic novel he was colouring for the Irish publisher The O'Brien Press, suggested he pitch a novel for younger readers. The result was The Ayla Trilogy, which he wrote and illustrated across three books: A Cage of Roots (2015), Storm Weaver (2016) and The Spiral Path (2017). A Cage of Roots was named Children's Book of the Year (9-11) by the Literacy Association of Ireland in 2017.
Since 2017 he has developed The Endling Saga, an ongoing multimedia project spanning books, comics, art, animation and games that he describes as a love letter to myth and pop culture.The project extends into SAGAWORLD, a shared setting for which he invites other artists to make work based on the Endling Saga's characters and world.,He has released digital art through SuperRare under the name Griff since January 2021.
