The studio began as Dark Fractures, founded by McCormick, a former architect, in Berlin.⁵ It was renamed Entangled Others Studio in November 2020, by which point McCormick was collaborating with Crespo. Their first joint project, Artificial Remnants, used a generative adversarial network trained on 3D insect models, with textures added by a separate neural network and anatomical descriptions generated by GPT-2, to imagine speculative insect specimens.^2,5 In Beneath the Neural Waves (2021), lacking accessible 3D scans of coral reefs, they used a genetic algorithm for coral growth developed by Joel Simon to generate an artificial reef.² The work won the Re:Humanism Art Prize 2 at MAXXI in Rome.⁶

For Critically Extant (2022), they trained a neural network on nearly three million images spanning about ten thousand species to generate speculative recreations of critically endangered species, showing how little visual data exists for most of the natural world. The work was projected across ninety-six billboards in New York's Times Square for the Midnight Moment program in May 2022.^2,3 Hybrid Ecosystems (2021-22), a series that merges imagery of trees with circuit-board-like digital forms, was later featured as set art in the fourth season of the television series Westworld.^2,3,7 In 2022 their video work Swim entered the permanent collection of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.⁸ Sediment Nodes (2022-23), made with custom generative adversarial networks, was shown at the Victoria and Albert Museum's Digital Art Season in 2024 and, the following year, in the Toledo Museum of Art's “Infinite Images: The Art of Algorithms”, one of the artists presenting in a major US museum exhibition for the first time.^1,3

Since 2023 the duo has developed self-contained, a series that encodes images as DNA sealed inside sculptural capsules to examine how information is stored and transmitted across organic and digital systems.^4,9 The project won the Lumen Prize's Nature & Climate Award in 2025.⁹ In early 2026 they held “Liquid Chimeras”, their first solo exhibition in Europe, at the MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan. Developed through the STUDIOTOPIA residency in dialogue with oceanographer Joan Llort, the exhibition centred on marine phenomena that exceed direct human perception, from oceanic upwellings to the eventual sinking of retired Argo ocean-monitoring floats.¹⁰
