Chuck Anderson is a Chicago-based artist, graphic designer, photographer, and creative director who has run his studio NoPattern since 2004, when he was 18 and had no formal training.,His work is dense, colorful, and maximalist, built from decades of layering, pushing, and breaking digital image-making tools. Every project uses a wide but tightly controlled color palette, arrived at through a huge volume of experimentation and iteration.
After graduating high school, he skipped college and worked at a bookstore and a screen-printing shop while getting freelance design jobs by emailing art directors he found in magazine mastheads.In 2005, he co-founded the early internet culture blog THE BRILLIANCE! with Benjamin Edgar and Virgil Abloh.,He has since worked with brands including Nike, Apple, ESPN, and the New York Times, designing album art for Lupe Fiasco, apparel for Nike and Michael Jordan, and the desktop for Microsoft Windows 7.,From 2015 to 2018 he was Design Director at Havas Chicago, and from 2018 to 2020 Group Creative Director at MKTG.In 2025, he began serving as Creative Director at Ernie Ball, a guitar company.
In 2022, he released his first long-form NFT collection, Infinite Pressure, comprising 90 solo works and nine collaborations with artists including Gremplin, Jen Stark, Joshua Davis, and IX Shells.Its abstract compositions layer polygons and gradients with such intensity that they arrive at a form of Abstract Expressionism, like densely built-up digital paint.In 2024, he released Imagined Wreckage in partnership with Verse, a series that folds AI image generators into his established practice of layering and editing.,He typically works with tools including Krea, Midjourney, Magnific, and Luma, generating a huge number of images and sending less than 0.01% of them on to final editing in Photoshop. The resulting images have photographic qualities, evoking circuit boards, engine parts, and other debris that appear vacuum-sealed in iridescent plastic.
