Brendan North is a fine art photographer based in Los Angeles who works in portraiture and conceptual photography.,North has built a signature style that renders glamorous, high-society imagery while folding in social commentary.He cites the photographers Slim Aarons, Helmut Newton and Irving Penn as influences, and has been mentored by photographer Tyler Shields.
North grew up outside Boston and began photographing while a student in Washington DC, running a blog called Humans of DC modeled on Humans of New York. After graduating he moved to Los Angeles to pursue photography full time. North has said his approach is guided by the phrase “Trust Your Direction”, which he trademarked in 2018.
In 2021 North released Digital Daydream on SuperRare, his debut NFT project — a series of five animated 1/1 works imagining humanity's possible futures with technology. The project marked his first time animating still photographs, a departure from his earlier practice of shooting on film with practical effects.In February 2023 North created The NFTimes Issue 1 for the The NFTimes, a collection within 6529's Meme Lab published in partnership with North as photographer and journalist.
