Ali Sabet is an Iranian-American artist and designer based in Los Angeles who works primarily with Japanese brushes and Sumi ink on canvas, alongside acrylic paintings, editions and apparel.,His work centers on a personal symbolic language he calls the SABET LOVESCRIPT, developed from a symbol he calls LOVEQUALS.
Sabet graduated from Cal State Fullerton in Communications and Advertising in 1998 and began his career as an art director at Foote, Cone & Belding, before founding his own branding agency, Sabet Brands. He painted alongside that work from early on, initially as a personal outlet for anxiety before shifting toward themes of love, gratitude and what he describes as source energy. He found that Japanese brushes and Sumi ink let him work in continuous, fluid strokes, and in 2016 he was invited to present his work at the Tokyo International Art Show.
Around 2016 Sabet began embedding a symbol he calls LOVEQUALS SERVICE into his paintings, in which the word love is drawn as a figure holding an equal sign, combined with the number one, an omega and a square root. Four more of these love symbols followed, and their repetition gave rise to the SABET LOVESCRIPT, a fluent but as yet undecoded script that he continues to paint.
Sabet has collaborated on limited pieces and live painting events with brands including Montblanc, John Varvatos and Thayers Natural Remedies, among others. He donates original work each year to nonprofit organizations including UNICEF, the AIDS Services Foundation, the PARS Equity Center, the HearAid Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
