The Italian artist Alessio De Vecchi is Visual Co-Creative Director of Anyma, the electronic music and visual art project he co-founded with Matteo Milleri of Tale of Us in 2021.,He designs the CGI characters, environments and visual language behind Anyma's stage shows, working at the boundary between the human and the mechanical.,Born in Milan, he studied Industrial Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design.,
De Vecchi began his career at Fabio Novembre's studio before moving to New York in 2006 to collaborate with the designer Karim Rashid. He went on to create 3D and CGI work for clients including Adidas, HBO and LG.,In 2016 he won the Lumen Prize Gold Award with the painter Fabio Giampietro for Hyperplanes of Simultaneity. The virtual reality piece let viewers wearing a Samsung Gear VR headset step inside a painted cityscape whose towers appeared to topple toward them.De Vecchi later settled in Tokyo, drawn to the city's dense, hyper-urban architecture and its echoes of Blade Runner.
Anyma pairs Matteo Milleri's live sets with De Vecchi's CGI characters and stage design.,The robotic humanoid EVA, a character De Vecchi had conceptualized in 2019 and executed in 2020, became the project's first figure.EVA debuted as EVA 0 on SuperRare before appearing live at Printworks London on November 28, 2021. Three more characters he designed, ADAM, LILITH and SYREN, joined the Anyma universe, each with its own visual identity.,De Vecchi also built the project's design system of color palettes, lighting and surface textures that let the visual language scale from a phone screen to the largest LED surface ever built.
In 2022 Anyma produced an NFT drop documented in São Paulo, part of the project's effort to showcase its NFTs at live Afterlife performances. In 2024 De Vecchi served as art director for Anyma's collaboration with The Weeknd in São Paulo. At the Anyma residency in Sphere Las Vegas, titled “The End of Genesys”, De Vecchi's visuals synced 3D graphics and animation to Milleri's music across the venue's interior screen.,De Vecchi described the production as grueling, working remotely from Ibiza and sleeping only a few hours a night while overseeing the animators and the set alongside Alexander Wessely. One of his Anyma visuals, La Pietà, reworked Michelangelo's sculpture into a futuristic scene that merges human and robotic forms.
