Ella is a Nekro, originally from a now extinct prim species called Denda. As a mortal she was a transgender woman from a developing country with technology equivalent to late 20th century Earth, turned before she could complete her transition. Several decades later, a world war led to the annihilation of all sapient life through nuclear and biological warfare.

The planet was within TFFS space and monitored without interference per standard policy. Conditional development contracts were already awarded before the war reached its end, and developers moved quickly afterward. Ella was discovered underground in a state of torpor by one of the salvage/clean-up crews, and since Nekros have rights granted by the Federation she was accepted as a refugee and given the standard compensation package (in return for relinquishing any rights to the planet) while also offered employment as a consultant.

Eventually Ella became a XenoFash model and has been successful for over a century. Even with the advanced technology of a galactic federation, it is impossible to remove the scars from her breast augmentation or perform further gender-affirming surgeries. The price of immortality is immutability.
