German mechanical engineer and physicist, W. Röntgen, won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 for the discovery of electromagnetic radiation in the X-Ray wavelength range. A radioactive element # 111, Roentgenium with multiple unstable isotopes, was named in his honor.
