Artist Statement:

There are many types of color combinations, but split tone (two complementary colors) represents to me a pinnacle of photography as it pertains to art. The desaturation of color is an ode to the black and white origins of photography as an artistic medium. Contrast also serves to emphasize the elements of composition, the subject placement, the framing, the geometry, etc..

Blue as a color represents for me the environment and the atmosphere. If the frame is an aquarium the blues are the ocean. The warm colors that offset the blue should draw the eye into the excitement of the frame with a subject destination. Since the eye finds the brightest spot in the frame, the cool will always keep the natural vignette. A subject within an environment. The combination of realism with surreal elements (letters, symbols, animals, people) serves multiple functions compositionally but more importantly to reinforce the overall theme of the piece.
