We live in an age that builds for the moment. Where cathedrals and town squares were once constructed to outlast their makers — to carry meaning across generations — what surrounds us today is designed to be replaced before it is truly seen. This is not simply a change in architecture or technology. It is a change in how we relate to the world around us, and to each other. Nothing feels meant to stay. And in that impermanence, something quietly unsettling has taken root.

There is a particular discomfort that comes with modern urban life — the sense that the world is in a permanent state of becoming and unbecoming, that meaning is always already expiring. Social media accelerates this further, collapsing the distance between creation and obsolescence until they are almost the same moment. We consume faster than we can feel. We move on before we have arrived.

And yet something resists. Beneath the speed, beneath the disposability, there remains a stubborn human need to be witnessed — to leave a mark that outlasts the moment it was made. Unanchored lives in the tension between that need and the forces working against it. It is not a mourning for what has been lost, but a confrontation with what it costs us to keep losing it.
