Yao Jui-Chung’s work draws from classical paintings and Internet imagery alike, where deities and mythological creatures mingle with hackers and UFOs. The “Disciples” are characteristic of the artist’s extensive iconography, re-incarnated into a hierarchy of beings in the twelve echelons of a new cosmology: Aliens, Gods, Saints, Immortals, A.I., Mutants, Humans, Fairies, Demons, Ghosts, Beasts, and Legendary Creatures. The faithful assume identities as voguish avatars in vintage frames.
