Description

Geological time, a paradox of both stasis and immense unending movement, encapsulates all time, and for this reason it has the assured anonymity of oblivion. It is only in the presence of geology that the authority of time becomes uncertain, even illusory. Take away the aeons and the eras, the Archeans and the Hadeans, remove the periods and epochs, the Cambrians and the Silurians, and you will see that there really is no time.

Geology provokes the mind to forgo its grip on time as a thing falsely envisioned, frequently imprisoned, and so often commodified. It returns to us a time of stateless liberty; a Gaussian blur devoid of any fixity. When we gaze into a landscape or a rock we become as old as the earth itself - we become static within the instant, equipoised and immune to entropy, a cosmic dot without a measurement of movement.

An appreciation of geology, then, is an alm to break the capital’s hegemony on temporality. We gain a special sensed perception through prolonged reflection, because any form of sustained interrogation becomes a meditation upon the paradox of time.

The works in this collection combine generative topographics with digital rendering and photogrammetry techniques.
