Buddhist monks preparing for Earth Day celebrations at Wat Dhammakaya temple in Bangkok, Thailand.

The temple is known to many as the 'UFO Temple' as its central dome, consisting of a million golden Buddhas, resembles a flying saucer. The temple complex is huge and has space for over a million worshippers, and its annual Earth Day event is always one of the most spectacular in the world, with over 300,000 lanterns and a million followers joining on a giant wall of Zoom calls.

Whilst the event was closed to the public this year due to COVID, I was able to get a place on the press list and photograph the preparations for the event as well as the event itself, which included a mass meditation.
