This illustration is inspired by the book "The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge" by the writer and anthropologist Carlos Castaneda. I was particularly interested in the description of the shaman Don Juan Matus and his ancestral knowledge. Two lizards are caught with no equipment or traps. The fiber of a century plant and thorn of a prickly pear is used to sew shut the eyes of one lizard and the mouth of the other. While under the influence of Datura the diviner asks the lizards to help find the answer to his question.
