The Laysan albatross spend the vast majority of their lives at sea, often going years without returning to land. Even when they return to the Hawaiian islands to breed, the adults alternate tending their egg or chick, and spend almost three weeks foraging for food, covering thousands of miles. They are truly free to wander.
