Formed by rough brushstrokes and thick layers of paint (impasto), the figure reflects not physical reality, but the heavy burden of her thoughts and inner solitude. Here, color serves as a vehicle for expressing the inner self; dark shadows and bold hues convey an anxiety—or perhaps a fraught serenity—lurking beneath her impassive expression.
