Sibyls were ancient prophetesses. The Erythraean Sibyl presided over the oracle at the town of Erythrae. She worked on the “garbage in/garbage out” principal: ask a lame question, get a crippled answer. Typically, she prophesied with an acrostic: a group of words whose initial letters form the consequential reply. Here the acrostic is “Crying Rain Only Soaks Seas.” The result, “CROSS,” predicts Jesus of Nazareth.
