While considering how I wanted to portray this week’s #artchallenge555 phrase, Whale of Fortune, I was reading a story by Karen Russell in her new book Orange World. I was so taken with the very important role of a small yellow bird in it that my initial drawing was a giant yellow canary riding a blue whale. For multiple reasons and time constraints, it didn’t turn out anything like my imagination, so I pixelated that one and it is now the background for this piece.
