Yasmin Bawadi, 2021
The virus caused an outbreak in Malaysia on the 4th of February, when the first man was confirmed to have gotten the virus on that day. Following that event, the Malaysian government decided to formally announce a quarantine period, otherwise known as Movement Control Order (MCO) for the whole country on the 18th of March. (Asita Elengoe, 2020). As a conjunction to that, like everyone else, I was frustrated and choked on the situation of being confined in a limited space, therefore instead of translating the condition from a negative perspective, I decided to see the circumstances as a blessing in disguise. Correspondingly, this led me into embracing the limited space as a sanctuary, a place to feel safe in the midst of chaos. To add more context, I have enrolled in boarding schools since 2014, therefore in the past 6 years, this is the longest period of time the I have actually spent at home. Being away from home for so long eventually left a feeling of being a stranger and a sense of being lost.
