Description

In heaven lost a wing, a petal is missing. Not fallen by accident but detached. Drifting just out of reach, close enough to be remembered, far enough to be gone. And yet the flower remains still upright, still open toward the sky, still, somehow, whole-looking. That is what this work is about.

Heaven Lost a Wing was born from a question I couldn't stop sitting with: what happens to a place when part of it leaves? Not just the part that left but the place itself. Does it grieve? Does it show it? I kept returning to the old story of heaven and the fallen angels. How after the rebellion, after the loss, heaven didn't collapse. It continued being heaven. But hell existed now. The absence had a shape. It had a name.

Home can feel like that.

When someone leaves or when something within a home quietly disappears ,life continues. The rooms remain standing. People still speak, laugh, eat, survive. From the outside, everything can appear untouched. But somewhere nearby floats the missing piece: a silence, a memory, a version of love that no longer has a place to land.

The stitched stem reflects that quiet endurance. The wounds are visible because healing is never invisible. Survival leaves marks. The stitching is not weakness, it is evidence of the effort required to remain standing after rupture.

This is not a painting about destruction. It is about continuity after loss. About the strange way people and places learn to function while permanently shaped by absence.

Heaven lost a wing. It is still heaven. But it is no longer the same heaven it once was.
