Description

Artist: Seoul Man Camera: Canon R5 Lens: Canon EF 24-70mm Dimensions: 5,464 x 8,192 Location: Seoul, Korea Year: 2022 Collection: Tezos Special Events Category: Call of the Wild Sub-category: threatened animal – canines.

The purpose of this NFT is to invoke awareness of acceptable norms within nations world-wide that make canines a threatened animal species. It’s common for humans to raise canines as pets. Hence, the term “man’s best friend”. Nevertheless, humans breed canines for human consumption. As horrific as this may be for dog lovers to fathom, human consumption of canines has existed for thousands of years and is still customary today in various nations world-wide.

“In the 21st century, dog meat is consumed in China, South Korea, Nigeria, Switzerland, and Vietnam, and it is eaten or is legal to be eaten in other countries throughout the world. Some cultures view the consumption of dog meat as part of their traditional, ritualistic, or day-to-day cuisine, and other cultures consider consumption of dog meat a taboo, even where it had been consumed in the past. Opinions also vary drastically across different regions within different countries. It was estimated in 2014 that worldwide, 27 million dogs are eaten each year by humans.” Wikipedia

What’s the story behind this NFT?

This NFT depicts a Bosintang or “Dog Soup” Restaurant in Seoul, Korea that has been in business for 60 years. Nevertheless, “In a 2020 survey, 84% of the [South] Korean population reported never having consumed dog meat nor having plans to ever do so.” Wikipedia.
