Description
This series continues the gesture of Praying in the Wrong Language, but now in the city: sidewalks, street corners, and utility poles host altars to saints, virgins, and popular figures. Remnants of offerings, extinguished candles, and plastic flowers resist the urban rhythm. If in the countryside prayers were part of the landscape, here they confront the noise of traffic and the exposure of the city. These are devotions not found; there is no simple equivalence. Labels displace more than they clarify. Small altars that open a crevice in the middle of the concrete.
