The Sirens Series of works are visual representations of plants and natural landscapes, overlaid with audio visualisations, and pulsing as a binaural beat. The idea for the series was born out of studying pattern recognition and the notion humans can alter their lived experience from within. The question of how much we are by nature and genetics, or nurture by creative agency and choices, are layered through the movement of still images. The pulsing coming from the colour spectrum, while the stillness of the plant and audio track frozen remain still in the frame. The original image of this was made on medium format film, from a botanical garden. The visual layers are reminiscent of the scanning process essential in the translation of chemical exposure of film to the digital medium itself.
