This image is part of my series, seascapes.
Our fascination with the sea is related to the act of returning home after a voyage; the „nostimon imar“, or sweet return of Ulysses in the Odyssey. It is only in relation to the land that the sea acquires such an enchanting power. It is the philosophical connection of the two that renders either one strong and fascinating and creates this strong magnetism.
This piece is part of a collection of 10 images, which are black and white analog photographs digitalized with reverse lights. All the images have been captured with a Leica M6 and Ilford 35mm films during explorations at sea between 2015 and 2020.
I took the original photograph in 2017 in the Chinese waters close to Xiamen when I was onboard the container ship Tigris.
