Teacher Acrylic on silk, 42 × 16 cm, 2023 This painting is based on photographs of my father teaching in a classroom. A teacher for most of his life, he appears here holding a notebook and dictating to his students, his profile emerging as a trace from memory. My father passed away in 2018, yet painting him remains a way of sustaining a relationship that loss could not erase. As a child, I often accompanied him to his classes, and those moments continue to inhabit my memory with unusual clarity. Part of the Remembrance: Love and Grief series, this work reflects on attachment through the act of remembering. The mirrored composition evokes a reflection on water, where an image appears both present and distant, tangible and unreachable. In this space between memory and absence, the figure of the teacher endures.
