Part of the Recollections from Suburbia series and selected to be shown at Scope Art Show Miami 2024, this post-photographic collage fractures the serene imagery of suburban life, infusing it with elements of surrealism and unease. Pink smoke billows ominously through meticulously maintained lawns, faceless gatherings dissolve into abstraction, and everyday objects are rendered alien by their context. These disruptions evoke a tension between nostalgia and discomfort, as if revisiting a memory warped by time or imagination.
Drawing on the aesthetics of mid-century Americana and dystopian dreamscapes, the collection explores themes of collective memory, societal conformity, and the hidden anxieties beneath suburban perfection. Each collage invites the viewer to question: What lies beneath the idyllic façade?
Through these juxtapositions, Recollections of Suburbia captures a sense of longing for a place that never fully existed—a suburbia both idealized and unsettling, where beauty and dread coexist in fragile balance.
