I have always loved the silence and solitude one has at sunrise .. standing on a lone jetty watching the world come to life, waiting for the sun to appear and bring the warmth that lights our souls.

Some of my earliest memories experimenting with long exposure photography was at this lone jetty at New Zealand's volcanic Lake Tarewera.

I was learning my trademark and would return time and time again to practice capturing the sunrise and recording it through my camera.

One of the best things about long exposures is that enjoying the moment is a real thing .. because the image can take up to 2 minutes or longer to capture, I actually get to take in my surroundings and watch mother nature do her thing.

This particular morning started off with moody cloud covering the sky, but a break in the horizon brought colour to the scene and is one that I will remember for a lifetime.
