Pricework is a minimalist conceptual art response to the mainstream NFT shark tank, celebrating the debasement of the aesthetic prevalent with NFTs whereby we are witnessing a new paradigm: Price - money - as art.
Price as art? The zone of nonceptual proximal development whereby the NFT becomes only its price, its speculative monetary value. Money as art.
It took me two weeks on OpenSea to reach a new, radical departure point for my NFTs: Pricework. Before my voluntary exile from that space, regarding the starved "art" aesthetic there, the mediocrity of the vast majority of the work, triggered a strange realisation that now the price - money - of the artwork is the artwork. Now, the price is the art, money is and as art.
This is beyond my neologistic platforms "nonceptualism" and "no-production". I now regarded this abyss of art, this nadir, feeling, This is the beginning of a new desolation.
It's Burroughs' 'Do easy' on an industrial scale; it's Warhol on meth. It's utterly pointless, an aesthetic dead-end. Lowest common denominator as canon. A null of mirrors, so to speak.
It's a sugar-coated shark tank. Right? And behind it is the intimation of the machine awareness, the steel rail carrying us all to some kind of generative oblivion.
As Nisargadatta Maharaj said, "Whatever you come across, go beyond." Whatever is happening with NFTs is not a binary positive/negative model. It is a '3rd Mind' model, it eats the ends of the spectrum, crunches the middle, and spits out a whole new rainbow.
And who - what? - knows this?
The machines know this
Art is dead in the hearts of machines.
Priceworks comprises four pieces:
Pricework 4 Responding to the tweets seen frequently in the Twitter OpenSea space: "I'm bored, show me your NFTs". The meaning is meaningless, boredom reigns. “Vacuous" covers it well. Reflection on the role of boredom in this, I soon understood that "boredom" is both a buffer and gateway drug for the impacts of the technological revolution consuming us all. An existential comfort zone to absorb some of the shocks, "boredom" in essence a form of self-protection while the backend of beingness copes with onrushing challenges.
