Praise for Those in the Field is a collection of 635 photographs documenting the workers that hand harvest fruits, vegetables, and herbs that supply the diets of millions of people.  In the vein of the American Farm Security Administration of the 1930’s and 1940’s, I wanted to bring this somewhat alienated, forgotten community of laborers, that so many of us depend on, into the light of day.  
Captured during the act of harvesting, these close-up portraits and sweeping landscapes, depict the unique tools used, the depths of the vegetation, and the clothing needed to protect the workers from the mud, moisture, and sun.  The best way I know how to praise these essential workers is to photograph them and bring them into the public eye so they do not get lost in the ether.
