A female forest spirit and her deer illuminate a fairy-tale scene with their candles. At her breast she suckles a rat, thus proving her caring. With her right arm she waves friendly to the viewer. Peonies are everywhere, even the deer has a wreath of flowers on its antlers. Looking closer, one notices that the largest peony has a brain-like petal. That and the owl sitting next to it, symbolize the intelligence of nature. The bleeding peony is supposed to represent the suffering that man inflicts on nature. The butterfly, whose transformation from a caterpillar to a colorful butterfly is a metaphor for the social change around us, is quite unconcerned.
