The lovely kingdom of Tillaer visualizes 1500 schools from around the world, each school randomly chosen from UNICEF's Giga database and then visualized as a tiny decorated square. All these schools are already connected to the internet and therefore have the opportunity to connect to each other and to the world, representing the future that UNICEF's Giga project strives for; having all schools in the world connected to the internet.
Areas where the decorations of the squares "sync up" with their neighbors to form larger symbols are an indication that those schools have some data aspect in common, such as their connection speed or country. Decorations become more complex as the internet connection speed of a school becomes faster. Flower symbols and rainbows represent schools with the fastest connection speeds. And there are many more subtle ways in which data is hidden and woven throughout the design.
Let your eyes wander across the kingdom and explore how Tillaer's schools come together to form a bustling metropolis.
