Launching as Sydney-based artist Eva Nolan’s first NFT artworks, Pareidolia is an experimental series that investigates interdependence and reciprocal exchange between life forms. The pentaptych has been developed by digitising numerous original graphite pencil on paper drawings then fragmenting and stitching them together in new hybrid compositions. The resulting speculative ecosystems are both alluring and repelling, teeming with chimeric organisms that confuse and interweave the branches of the phylogenetic tree; a wallaby’s tail grafts to the stem of an orchid, a giant clam is adorned with the plumage of a cockatoo, a serpent blossoms into the petals of a bat flower. Pareidolia challenges audiences to contemplate perceived boundaries between things, and rethink our relationships with the more-than-human world.
