Description

Athens, Greece March 2009 — Kostas Mazomenos is on his way back home. Almost. Tavros is an athenian suburb east from Piraeus (in the greater Athens metropolitan area, along with athenian riviera), but it's there where he goes to have a break. Holding on to the exquisite blue pearlescent mineral staff, he's guided by it's light when there are no stars in the sky. Each whisper and sound from the busy boroughs pay no mind to his presence. Neither, it seems, to his strange, non-human ally. It hasn't been long since he's been used to the company of these beings which survived from the clutches of history, making it through from tales into the realm of existance. But he's sure no matter how many "worlds" there are inside this one, people are still hard-wired on delivering their best at a day's work. Day after day, the repetitive working routine does seem to get the better off of us. The 14-year old insists in finding a different fate for him. But the minotaur in disguise would advise him to find his place, and he doesn't mean literally his home — which is in some six kilometer radius away from here. It seems the working class suburb is always too busy, they may actually notice the hooded characters, but give nothing about the duo. They have their own business to take care of. As even the leisure time is sacrosanct, and nothing is really extraordinary enough to move one away from an well-earned break. But when leisure is a timed reward, is it really treasured? Are we really giving our best?

FIFTH in a series of scenes from the collection NOSTOS (Return), depicting different regions of the world and following the steps of an original character. Across this collection, some scenes range from a friendly slice of life — while others shows the cracks of out of place, mythical creatures — all the while uncovering the common in the uncommon, and the uncommon in the common.

Mixed Media: line art is done with Ink Pens (0.1, 0.5, 0.8) straight from an A4 sketchbook page; plus digital colouring and editing.
