A bench collapse at the Kamokuna ocean entry of Kilauea within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on New Year's Eve started 2017 off with an explosive display. This lava tube was severed in the process and began dumping hundreds of millions of gallons of lava seventy-five feet into the ocean. Mixing molten lava and cool ocean water had powerful and amazingly beautiful results.
