Succession - the inheritance of something in offspring - seems to me a perfect title for an artwork inspired by the avant-garde and modernism of the late 19th and early 20th century, when Brâncuși became one of those who pushed further in experiments with form, language, and composition, setting a new direction in art, literature, and architecture.

Succession literally means the process of following, taking over, or replacing something with something else - most often in an ordered and continuous way.

Every new movement, also in the artistic sphere, is a succession - we follow the direction, we develop it, the idea is accepted and continued, expanded.

The avant-garde and modernism were accepted and are still continued, developed in various ways. The idea hidden behind Brâncuși’s work is based on focusing on the main aspect, stripping away everything unnecessary and distracting, and concentrating on the essence.

This is my inspiration for “Succession” - leaving only the core, the essence of a human being, their most important element. An element that, in contact with a person, is often overlooked. We look to the sides, down, at the lips, the hair, and the essence of a human being - their emotions, soul, sincerity and falsehood - belongs to the eyes. As Brâncuși himself said: “I want just the flash of its spirit.” And I attempt to capture the human spirit, stripped of distractions, only the depth of the soul, their simple, emotion-revealing eyes. Eyes without gestures or facial expressions, on one hand they seem a difficult element to present, on the other hand simple in form and full of a spark.

During this journey, I, as a living sculpture, present emotions, from joy to anger throughout the entire performance. The essence lies in conveying the main thread of “Succession” through understanding ideas unfolding over decades and simplifying the presentation of human emotion and soul into one simple element - the eyes.

A human appearing as a living sculpture, who within a classic scenic composition serves as the vessel of storytelling, is reduced, simplified to the essence of message and emotion presentation, to where one should truly look and feel: into the eyes of the living sculpture.
