Description

Inspired by the faceless nature of the Muñecas Limé, often seen as a representation of the diversity of Dominican identity, this digital art collection celebrates the idea that beauty and cultural richness extend beyond physical appearance. These traditional faceless ceramic dolls are symbols of national pride and a testament to the Dominican people’s collective spirit.

This series pays tribute to the cultural relics that filled my childhood home and those of my relatives. While these dolls were a familiar presence, I only recently delved into their deeper significance while researching for a Hispanic Heritage Month project. Crafted from clay in the town of Higüerito, the Muñecas Limé reflect the rich blend of Taíno, African, and European heritage that shapes the Dominican Republic. I realized they embody everything I love about my culture—its richness, diversity, and unity.
