As a contemporary caveman, this series has been shot in the dark, capturing some feeble and trembling shapes made of light while appearing on a screen. This unpredictable process reflects in an intangible and elusive body of work, which has the quality of mental projections.
Mingled with Voids has a re-combinatory quality. It’s a deep dive into the universe's randomness, an acceptance of the impermanence of existence and, simultaneously, an act of playful resistance against it.
The process consists of several steps: at any stage, pictures lose something and gain something else. Key points are a set of mirror-like surfaces that cast reflections and a custom-made darkroom printing process with a coffee-based recipe instead of chemicals.
// Technique Images have been initially taken digitally, transferred to negatives and then printed in the darkroom on silver gelatin paper with caffenol, a developer based on coffee instead of chemicals.
// Bio Diego Brambilla is an Italian artist based in Zürich, Switzerland, who employs a range of analog and digital photographic processes to blend real and imaginary. Driven by the fascination with mystery and ambiguity, Diego aims to challenge the perception of reality. Dry and essential, his pictures are inward landscapes, states of mind, and atmospheres full of uneasiness and irony.
