MX01 is the first transhuman avatar from the ongoing project started in 2020, entitled "MARCEL/A - A journey of digital introspection and relief". In this project the artist explores their personal feelings of gender dysphoria, depression and chronic illness while escaping the reality of their own body and mind through digital re-embodiment and re-worldling. Here Marcela becomes MARCEL/A a gender defying digital self that continually evolves in the virtual space. Approaching their work in a therapeutic way, they portray the idea of rejection and acceptance of certain anatomical parts through the extrusions that signify their own body’s discomfort, but also investigate the possibility for self-acceptance and reconciliation of their own body and mind. They long for a gender ambiguous but fit and masculine appearing body while also questioning whether their desire for a masculine aesthetic is a result of genuine identification or a byproduct of internalised misogyny.
