I am a professional refurbisher, and I make art using broken computers. This is a series of 201 NFTs released over 201 days, comprised of unpublished images spanning more than a decade of exploration.
Using defects as filters to affect my photography, I have collected hundreds of devices with broken screens, misfiring graphics processors, naturally circuit-bent display hardware, and modified polarized elements. I re-photograph my images behind these distortions, creating layers across multiple devices in order to achieve a desired effect.
These broken, discarded machines are transformed into creative tools and often become art installations themselves. “Broken” is simply a failure of perspective, as simply changing the intended purpose makes the old new and useful again.
The nature of this form is ephemeral, and a glimmer of light may last a mere fraction of a second. Therefore the product of my work can only be a photograph…a photograph which will always be — compared to the brilliance of the machine itself — relatively LOWREZ.
