These paintings are inspired by the gestural and colors from balinese traditional dance, evolving on a 3 phase-arc, the beginning (purwa), establishing character and control, the middle (madhya), where the core action happens, a rhytmic and dramatic acceleration, a dialogue between the dancers, and finally the closure (wasana), where the energy descends, returning to stillness and clearness. The brushstrokes not only evoke painting movements but are based on steps of various dance positions, color being the performer or vessel to it.
