Keys and Gates
Description

A piano key from the flying piano tree at The Air Is Made Of Music, Eric Pan's 2024 exhibition in Berlin, Germany. Visitors wrote reflections on the intimacy between music and travel, on paper cards, then hung them from keys like this one. This is its second flight.

Thirty-five copies, airdropped to the collectors who voted for one of Eric Pan's three photographs in the 6529 Museum's Keys and Gates inaugural accession program. If it is in your wallet, you were one of the thirty-five: thank you.

The key opens exactly one of two gates: The Teleporter (frame 8A) or Freedom to Picnic (frame 8B) — the essay's eighth diptych. Redemption burns the key.

The gates never close. With no deadline, a key left unburned is its own answer, held like a breath whose exhalation can still occur.
