Ali Yaba, 69, has been making chess pieces from boxwood for half a century in the Bahçesaray district of Van, where many people, from young to old, play chess, which has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. Yaba, who makes chess pieces from boxwood branches with traditional methods on the workbench designed from wood and iron, continues his profession despite his advancing age.

The old man, who shapes the tree branches with the sharp tip of a knife and iron, sells the chess set he prepared in 10 days and contributes to the family economy. He is known as the last person to do this job.
