The Staircase In Memorial Continued:

The Staircase ..there were many staircases in the hotel, but this was our favourite as it lead to so many of our secret adventures in the dark. It was also were we met the lady in the scarlet dress. We can’t remember seeing her during the day, but at night as we were going to bed we sometimes saw her, red nails, red lips, definitely something Mama would not approve of, so naturally she became our idol. Back in our room we would “smoke” a pencil each, walk back and forth in our large room, swaying our hips and calling each other “Darling”. She disappeared, there was a lot of fuss.
