Description

Since 2015, I have been exploring my interest in portraiture in a series called "Imprints." Working primarily in oil paint, I aimed to break down and exaggerate the fundamentals of traditional portraiture with the intention of creating a personal dialogue between the viewer and the paintings. Line, color, background/foreground relationship and form are blurred, abstracted and exaggerated to leave behind the 'documentation' of a portrait and bring to the forefront the inherent qualities of the medium.

As technology slowly made its way into my art practice, I began using digital tools to manipulate my drawings and paintings. The resulting works were then drawn and painted on using programs such as Procreate to create works that were only intended to live in the digital sphere. This new technology has allowed me to evolve my traditional practice and further explore these topics of personal identity and emotional displacement.

"The Invisible Sun" was created using backgrounds of old paintings in my studio, found textures and drawing in Procreate.
